SPECIAL ABILITIES Those extra perks some wizards and witches have.
Animagus - An Animagus is a witch or wizard who can transfigure into an animal at will. It is a learned skill that only very powerful and skilled witches and wizards can hope to acquire. The process of learning the skill is long and difficult and can easily go wrong. Animagi, can only take the form of one animal; it is usually the same animal as the witch or wizard’s patronus, and just like a patronus, the animal form is a reflection of the witch or wizard’s inner nature. Each Animagus has an identifying mark on their animal form that is either from something on their human body or an acquired physical trait, such as glasses. A wand is not needed to transform. Legal Animagi need to register with the Ministry of Magic, but there are illegal Animagi that do not register.
Although in the wizarding world there is no actual age limit on when someone can become an Animagus, here at The Golden Snidget, one must be at least a fifth year to begin Animagus training, and training must take, at minimum, a year. That means there should be no full-fledged Animagi younger than sixth year students.
Metamorphmagus - Metamorphmagi are very rare. They are witches and wizards who can change their appearance at will without Polyjuice Potion or a spell. Unlike Animagi, Metamorphmagi are born, not made; it is a heredity trait. Also unlike Animagi, they can change into a multitude of forms, and they can change gender, race and age or just change part of their appearance, such as their nose. They change parts of their appearance into animal parts (ie: a human nose to a pig snout), but they cannot take on the form of an animal. Emotions will effect a Metamorphmagi’s ability to transform their appearance; for example, if one is depressed, it will be difficult to use said abilities.
Non-Verbal Magic - Non-verbal is an incantation which is performed and without the spell being said out loud. This is very difficult to do and requires practice, concentration and strong mental discipline. Non-verbal magic is taught at the sixth year in Hogwarts; however not everyone becomes successful. One must be at least a seventh year in order to be able to perform non-verbal magic, but students in the sixth year may be practicing it.
Wandless Magic - Wandless magic is magic performed without the use of a wand. This type of magic is more difficult to learn than even non-verbal magic. This type of magic often occurs in underage witches and wizards who have not yet learned how to control their powers, though some exhibit some control. Because of how difficult it is to learn and control wandless magic, only those that have graduated Hogwarts may be well-versed in it.
Parselmouth - Parselmouths are those that can speak to spanks in the language of the serpant, Parseltongue. Parselmouths are extremely rare, and it is said to be hereditary from the bloodline of Salazar Slytherin.
Seers - Seers are those that can use their inner eye to see the future. Seers predict prophecies, which are recorded and stored in the Hall of Prophecy in the Ministry of Magic. True seers are extremely rare, though there are many frauds.
Legilimency - Legilimency is the act of working one's way through the layer's of someone's mind and actively being able to interpret their findings. This is known as "mind-reading" amongst many, though practitioners deem this term naive. The absolute most advanced Legilimens can perform this act non-verbally and wandlessly; however, the less talented must use the spell Legilimens to enter someone's mind. High skilled Legilimens can also influence someone's mind in ways such as giving a person visions or completely controlling it. A person can defend themselves against Legilimency by using Occlumency (see below). One must be at least 20 to be skilled in this ability, and they must have gone through extensive training through the Ministry or with someone who is already highly skilled in Legilimency.
Occlumency - Occlumency is the act of closing one's mind against Legilimency and can prevent Legilimen from accessing their mind. In order to use occlumency, one must completely clear their mind of thoughts and emotions. More advanced Occlumency involves only hiding some thoughts and emotions so that someone using Legilimency would not know that Occlumency was being used. It is also used against the effects of Veritaserum. Occlumeny requires a great deal of will power (similar to resisting the Imperus curse) as well as a high degree of mental and emotional discipline. One must be out of Hogwarts to be skilled in this ability, and they must have gone through extensive training with someone who is already highly skilled in Occlumency.

SPECIES For those who aren't 100% human.
Veela - Veela are females reminiscent of Sirens from Greek mythology. Although little is known about their biology, their appearance and their dance are magically seductive to almost all male beings (and possibly some female beings as well). A Veela's voice can also cause one to incessantly brag in an attempt to impress them. When Veela are angry, they turn into something resembling harpies: their face turns into cruel-beaked birds and long scaly wings burst from their shoulders, and they can launch balls of fire from their hands. The Veela are known to be a very angry race. Veelas' hair is extremely magical and some wandmakers use it for a core. Veela have been known to mate and/or marry wizards, though not muggles, and produce off-spring that are half-veela; they inherit magic from their fathers and beauty and charm from their mothers. Veela traits last for up to four generations.
Werewolves - Werewolves are humans who unwillingly change into a near-wolf at the rise of the full moon. Werewolves are distinguished from regular wolves by their pupils, the shape of their snout and the tufted tail. When the moon is not full, they appear as normal humans, though nearing the full moon, they might appear ill. One becomes a werewolf when bitten by an already turned werewolf during a full moon, when they are a full-fledged werewolf. If one is bitten by a werewolf during their human form, they will take on traits similar to that of a werewolf, such as craving raw meat. When a werewolf transforms, he or she completely forgets whom he or she is and would even kill their best friend if given the opportunity. Although there is no known cure, the Wolfsbane potion is the only known potion to help a werewolf during their transformation by helping them keep their human-mind. If when a werewolf transforms there are no humans to attack and no animals to occupy its time, a werewolf will attack itself out of anger and frustration. Werewolves are widely prejudiced and discriminated against in the wizarding community, and most werewolves live in poverty, unable to find someone willing to hire them. Although it is rare for a werewolf to have a child, if one does, their offspring will not be a werewolf unless bitten.
Vampires - Vampires are beings that are known for biting people on the neck and sucking their blood. They are usually pale and gaunt with sharp teeth to puncture the neck. They don't like garlic and can be held at bay with it. Although they do not like the sun, they will not die if out in it; they do tend to avoid it though, as it will burn them severely. Sunscreen with a high SPF or a Light Blocking potion allows them to be outside during the day without worry. Although not known as magical creatures, they have been known to carry the magic gene. Unlike werewolves, vampires are not as widely feared in the wizarding community and are not considered a great threat, though that is not a universal view. One is turned into a vampire by being bitten by a vampire and not being completely drained. However, surviving the change is rare and very painful. Since being bitten effects the genes of a human, if a vampire were to breed with a human, their off-spring would be half-vampire, which would cause said off-spring to have similar traits to vampires, but would not necessarily need to drink human blood, or at least not as often. Since such breeding is extremely rare, what traits half-vampires acquire is unclear. Please note: there are no "vegan" vampires and they do not sparkle. Vampires need human blood to survive. However, there are other ways to get blood than to bite humans, such as blood flavored lollipops that can be bought in some candy stores.
